The Federal Aviation Administration is considering a ban on international flights landing in New York City on September 11 and the following two days as well.
Due to apparent concern over possible terrorism on the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, passenger and cargo flights from overseas would be prohibited from flying over the city’s airspace or landing in local airports during certain hours on those two days. The initiative would not restrict any domestic flights, so would primarily affect Kennedy and Newark airports but not LaGuardia.
The FAA plan calls for the same 30-mile perimeter banning international flights around Washington, D.C. and the crash site of the fourth hijacked airliner in Pennsylvania. There would also be restrictions on small aircraft near all three crash sites

Desperate to trim costs and starving for new ways to make money, the nation’s largest airlines are cutting service, tightening rules and charging extra fees to their low-fare passengers.

The most extreme rule changes to date came on Tuesday, when US Airways announced strict new policies that include barring most passengers with nonrefundable tickets from flying standby or catching a later flight if they miss their original one. Travelers in those circumstances will have to buy a new ticket. Under the old rules, passengers could board a later flight if they paid a change fee and any fare difference, or received credit for the unused portion of the original ticket that they could apply toward another ticket within a year.
