The fire brigade serving the Dutch province of Flevoland has a new organisation which went into effect from the beginning of 2008. The region spanning from the North East Polder to the city of Almere now falls under the same brigade. As a result the corps needed a new fire tender which was comfortable for long distance driving. To celebrate this reorganisation the fire brigade has purchased a new command car, the powerful 200 bhp Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon 2.4 JTDM. The car will be driven by the commander, who provides the highest level of responsibility for overseeing large missions. Due to this the Alfa 159 is fitted with every conceivable option and of course has been finished in red along with the striking Dutch fire service livery. The Flevoland fire crew chose the Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon although the Dutch rescue services regularly drive Volvos and Volkswagens. “We want to give other brands the chance to present themselves in this line of work,” the Brigade says. “We gladly arrive at a scene in a good-looking fire brigade car to carry out our duty.”
