GAUGES
10 cm square in stockinette stitch with knitting needles and Neve yarn = 13.5 sts and 18.5 rows.
10 cm square in stockinette stitch with knitting needles and Folk yarn = 13.5 sts and 22 rows.
The garment is a size 10/12.
To change the size, add or delete 3 cm in width (= 4 sts for the back, 4 sts for each front) for every difference in size; add or delete 2 cm (= 4 rows) to adjust length.
METHOD
Back: With Neve yarn, cast on 113 sts and alternate * 15 rows with Neve yarn in rev stock st, 17 rows with Folk yarn in stock st *, rep from * to * another 2 times, then end using Neve yarn. At the same time, to shape poncho, distribute decs as follows: on 3 centre sts dec 2 sts every 8 rows 10 times, 2 sts every 6 rows 2 times (work p3 tog on rev stock st, 2 SKP on stock st). At the same time, evenly distribute 5 decs in 7 th row worked in different colours (= 54 decs tot). 48 cm tot from beg (= end of 6 th band), to shape shoulders, dec at sides within 2 sts and every 2 rows: 2 sts 6 times and 1 st. 8 cm from beg of shoulders, place 33 rem sts on hold.
Front: Work to match back up to 48 cm tot from beg. Shape shoulders to match back and, at the same time, for the opening, bind off 5 centre sts and finish each part separately, decreasing towards centre within 2 sts: 1 st every 2 rows 7 times. 9 cm from beg of shoulders and neckline, bind off 7 rem sts.
FINISHING
Sew shoulders and sides. For hood, with circular needle and Folk yarn, pick up 65 sts around neckline (incl back sts on hold, but not incl front centre opening) and work in stock st. 36 cm tot from beg, dec on 3 centre sts: 2 sts every 2 rows 7 times. When decs are finished, bind off all rem sts. Fold top of hood in half and sew. Trim bottom of back and front with fringes as follows: take a few strands of Folk yarn 35 cm long, join them in groups of 4, fold in half and, with a crochet hook, tie them to the edge sts. Tie one fringe every 5 sts. With Neve yarn, make 2 braids 40 cm long and fasten to sides of front opening at the bottom of the hood. Trim free ends of braids with a small fringe.
